About us

Skill and character, built together

Kazo Technical School trains young Ugandans in welding and metal fabrication, so they can provide for themselves and the people who depend on them.

Our mission

Many young people in Uganda are unemployed or stuck in low-paying day jobs because they never had the chance to learn the skills that lead to better work. We believe every young person should build the character and the skills to go out, build things and give Uganda a brighter future.

Why we started

We founded Kazo Technical School to give Ugandan youth the skills to provide for themselves and their dependants.

Without training in productive trades, communities stay stuck in cycles of poverty and corruption. A trade breaks that cycle, one graduate and one household at a time.

Our values

What we strive to model

Three habits we teach in the booth and hold ourselves to every day.

  • Punctuality

We show up on time. If we're delayed, we let people know straight away.

  • Productivity

We stay organised, work efficiently and keep a clean workspace.

  • Professionalism

We treat everyone with respect, honesty and integrity in everything we do.

How we train

A course in basic arc welding and metal fabrication, with an emphasis on high standards of quality.

One-third classroom, two-thirds booth

Students learn the theory together in the classroom, then practise on their own with a welding machine and tools.

Small classes

We keep classes small, so every student gets individual help from the instructor.

Character, every day

At least thirty minutes a day on the Christian principles of integrity, honesty, diligence and morality. These life skills make graduates people employers want to hire.

Skills employers hire for

We train to the standard Kampala employers look for, so graduates can go out and win work on their own merit.

The goal

By the end of semester two, students are equipped for East Africa's metalworking industry: heavy steel construction, food-processing equipment and small-scale production of light steel products.
